What Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?
Build a life shaped by what matters — while making room for what you feel.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, known as ACT, helps people build a meaningful life while making room for the thoughts and feelings that naturally come with being human. Its goal is not to eliminate every painful internal experience. It is to reduce the power that difficult thoughts and emotions have over your choices.
Many people become trapped in a struggle with their own minds. You may try to suppress anxiety, argue with every self-critical thought, stay constantly busy to avoid sadness or withdraw from situations that could bring discomfort. These strategies may work briefly. Over time, however, life can become smaller and increasingly organized around what you do not want to feel.
